What makes company data valuable?

Evaluate demand, usefulness and rights without mistaking a marketing number for an offer.

There is no universal price per employee

Company size is a rough description of possible activity, not a valuation method. A smaller, coherent archive with clear rights may be more usable than a larger collection of duplicated files. Published ranges describe a provider’s proposition; they are neither guaranteed payouts nor independent transaction benchmarks.

The important dimensions

A useful assessment asks whether the records represent real work, link actions to outcomes, cover enough variation, retain chronology, and have a clear chain of rights. Completeness across systems can matter more than raw file count. Missing attachments, broken identifiers and inaccessible exports can make preparation expensive.

Compare the same scope

Ask two counterparties to price the same years, systems, exclusions and permitted uses. Separate guaranteed cash from contingent revenue share, and subtract costs you bear. A high amount for an exclusive perpetual license is not directly comparable with a narrow non-exclusive evaluation license.

Keep the estimate provisional

Demand changes. A provider may decline the dataset after reviewing fit, rights or quality. Request the assumptions behind an indicative range, what can change it, who approves acceptance, and whether any amount is guaranteed before you spend time preparing records.

Your next step

See where your company’s data could fit.

  • Begin with a company description, not an export
  • Review systems, retained history and exclusions
  • Compare the terms before sharing records
